Small Business Law

A building contractor needed help collecting payments due from the homeowner. The firm assisted the contractor in collecting the debts rightfully owed to him, with litigation and then a quick agreed-upon resolution.


Contract and Property Law

A husband and wife were shortchanged by a construction contractor who collected tens of thousands of dollars from them, and then failed to deliver required goods and services to complete the construction work on their family home. The firm brought suit against the contractor’s company and the owner individually for fraudulent misrepresentation, conversion, violations of the Michigan consumer Protection Act MCL 445.903, and violation of Michigan’s builders trust statute MCL 570.151, which makes a contractor personally liable for misappropriating or misusing fiduciary funds held in trust for a construction project.


Government Regulation - Accidents and Insurance

The firm assisted a group of business owners in taking an administrative appeal of a zoning matter through the Circuit Court. Government actors are not “above the law,” and Michigan law generally requires fairly strict compliance with zoning ordinance provisions and the Michigan Zoning Enabling Act, including by the government itself.


Employment Law

A female employee in her 50s was sexually harassed by the owner of a downstate company. The firm assisted her with her employment disputes and obtaining a successful resolution and agreed upon settlement.

 

Employment Law

A local municipality had difficulties with an employee and needed labor counsel and advice to ensure they were properly complying with the terms of the collective bargaining agreement and their own municipal policies and procedures. The firm assisted with counsel and advice to help ensure the municipality handled the employment situation appropriately.

 

Contract and Property Law

The firm assisted a family-owned limited liability partnership with substantial mineral and oil rights and litigated the dispute with a former managing partner. The dispute was highly contested through the local circuit court of the Michigan Court of Appeals with the firm prevailing on behalf of its client (the partnership) at each of the steps of the litigation. Recently, the Michigan Supreme Court also issued an order that resolved the matter completely and finally in favor of the firm’s client, much to the client’s happiness.

A business client needed advice and counsel regarding a series of detailed contract that would help the business make substantial investments in property development and construction of single-family residences. The firm quickly provided the needed advice with a quick turnaround, which assisted the business with moving forward with its investments and developments.
